The South African Police Service (SAPS) invites unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 30 to apply for the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP).

SAPS General Requirements
- Apply on the official form and declare (under oath or solemn declaration) that all information you provide is true.
- You must be a South African citizen (with valid proof).
- You must be between 18 and 35 years old on the application closing date (proof required).
- You must undergo a comprehensive medical examination and be physically, mentally, and medically fit.
- You must complete a psychological assessment and meet the profile of a police officer.
- You need a Grade 12 certificate (Matric) or an equivalent qualification (proof required).
- You must speak English and at least one other official South African language.
- You must be willing to take the police oath and complete police training when required.
- You must not have visible tattoos when wearing any SAPS uniform.
- You must not be banned from owning a firearm.
- You must have no criminal record or pending cases.
- You must not have been fired from any previous job due to:
- Dishonesty
- Violence
- Sexual harassment
- Drug use
- You must allow your fingerprints and DNA (buccal sample) to be taken for criminal record checks.
- You must allow background checks and security clearance vetting to be done.
- You must be willing to work anywhere in South Africa.
Additional Requirement
Having a valid driver’s license for at least a light motor vehicle will be an advantage.
Preference will also be given to applicants who have:
- A 3-year tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6 or higher) in:
- Criminal Law
- Policing
- Forensic Investigation
- Or similar fields
- Any other 3-year tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6 or higher)
- A Grade 12 certificate that qualifies you to study:
- A Bachelor’s Degree
- A Diploma
- A Higher Certificate
